How to Prepare Student-Athletes for College-Level Athletics

Many of our students aspire to play their chosen sport at the collegiate level. To achieve that goal, preparation during the middle school years is key.

At Sapolu Destined Academy, we recognize that many of our students aspire to play their chosen sport at the collegiate level. To achieve that goal, preparation during the middle school years is key.

Here are a few ways to best prepare student-athletes for high school, with a bright future in college athletics in mind.

Build A Solid Academic Foundation

Students at SDA balance rigorous academics with specialized athletic training from the start. This is a key skill for any athlete aiming to play at the collegiate level. They’ll focus on:

  • Time management. With support from instructors, students will learn to effectively manage their time and studies, priming them to succeed both academically and athletically in high school and beyond.
  • Technological proficiency. SDA’s modern, high-tech learning environment exposes students to a variety of educational tools, including e-books and other digital resources.
  • In-person collaboration. In tight-knit, structured classrooms, students learn how to collaborate with others, balance athletics and academics within the same school day, and focus deeply on the task at hand.

Level Up Athletically

Middle school is the ideal time for students to develop discipline and consistency in their athletic lives. At SDA, they’ll have access to coaches and other professionals who can help them develop routines with nutrition, safety, and performance in mind.

In addition, they’ll have a close-knit group of peers to provide support and motivation as they improve their skills and solidify their athletic practices.

Prioritize Personal Development

Managing the stress of school and sports can be challenging even for the most talented students. At SDA, our instructors and coaches possess extensive knowledge of competitive sports and serve as crucial resources for student-athletes as they develop the mental fortitude necessary to compete at the highest levels.

No one does it alone—the support of peers and mentors is a vital part of the SDA experience and key to our vision as a school. “It takes a village,” says one parent, “and Sapolu Destined Academy will always be a part of ours.”

Make A Plan for High School

Our SDA staff works with families to determine the best path forward for each student. This includes high school selection and, if appropriate, reclassification.

We’re proud that 100% of our recent graduates got into the elite high school of their choosing, including:

  • Mater Dei High School
  • Servite High School
  • Santa Margarita Catholic High School
  • Sierra Canyon School
  • Bishop Montgomery High School

“Sapolu Academy was a real game changer for our son Jaxson,” says one parent. “It kept him accountable on the academic side with a really good hands-on approach to learning. It also taught him discipline in the weight room and the basic principles of nutrition and wellness that he can take into his [high school] years … I feel SDA has Jaxson set up for success at the next level.”
